Both Good and Bad. Good you tried your best. Bad only because you could have tried a little hard to do this type of work. It does not need to be the cheapest way to repair a car, but more so the best way to repair a car. First time watching your channel. So i might be expecting too much?????????????? Regards Peter.

To all you experts posting about in fairness, a botch repair to the cracked frame saying it will not be as good as an OEM repair. Just consider that when this was built by Audi brand new, they made this part of the frame too weak which caused the critical failure to begin with. Why would you trust the OEM's 30k dangerous frame design fix any more than this?

I now understand why the insurance company totaled this car. A safer repair to this design is cost prohibitive. Having owned an S2000 with previous damage, I don't suggest pushing this car to its limits. Maybe part it out, its other parts are in excellent shape, and then buy one with a better frame.

You are as weak as your weakest link! The frame must have outstanding torsional rigidity that it finds shearing off the shock bulkhead as the easiest way to release.

I've not even watched to completion yet, but a tip: it would have been better to put the top shock mount bolt through the holes and hook to that. Spreads the pulling load to both holes AND is exactly reverse of the original load. Ideally, aligning the pulling load to be exactly right angles (in other words, precisely where the lower shock mount is) to the top shock mount would be most accurate. Yes, it would be worth it to remove the lower A arm and any other obstacles to make that possible.

$2000 windshield $200 battery $200 in tools at least . Let’s say $200 for your friend. Let’s just say half the price of their original front struts let’s call it 1000 . 42000 car . Let’s just say 1000 shipping. Not an easy project. Especially for something like this

Sorry to kill you a with text . But technically to be absolutely safe you should take the dash out and make sure behind a firewall on the inside everything is good. Doing 180+ or even consistently doing 100 is just scary I would roll cage a car and put subframe connectors . If applicable

I’ve seen a Shelby cobra totaled due to flood damage . And you could see where the waterline went to and it was no reason to total a car . This kid got it for 26,000 and It had 8000 miles . It was 100% perfect zero water underneath the carpet definitely a steel. This would scare me being a car that you can do 180+ with that kind of crack . You can’t even call that a crack it’s a Half the front clip. Definitely worth 42,000 but welding carbon fiber and aluminum is scary especially being how thin the aluminum is and the Carbon fiber so close to locations

$29k insurance quote because of liability and it being a super premium car. The repair would be certified and a super high performance and fast car is more likely to wreck and maybe try to blame it on the repair than grandma's 95 corolla. I have a truck with a frame issue and no one will touch it because of liability, and frame shops want more than the cost of a new frame and more than the vehicle is worth.

samCRAC you have to be a CRACKpot to buy this car and attempt to fix it with that kind of design flaw. There is a reason the previous owners insurance totalled the car.

Vor 8 Stunden
Dave Job
Dave Job

Samcrac, I know it must be hard to admit you've got a lemon, but in this case you must. It would be completely irresponsible and immoral of you to let this car, capable of such high speed, out into the public roads, or to sell it as a roadworthy vehicle. You have no stress analysis, and no idea of the loads on the frame ,and without an engineers survey and approval its anyone's guess when that shock mount will fail and the consequences of a high speed failure could be tragic. The valid points made by many here in the comments concerning the fatigue / lack of heat treatment reflect this. You don't even know what alloy you are dealing with. Please reconsider your choices with this car. Years ago I worked as a sound engineer on the Aust. launch events for this vehicle, I remember my shock when one of the German gentlemen accompanying the launch tour told me how all the demo vehicles would be scrapped....because of the liability involved with aluminium based frames.

This was so painful to watch. I was almost happy to see you bust the front glass. It’s disturbing how proud you are of this hack job. That fact that your pulling structural pieces and not measuring anything is ridiculous. You can’t do frame work by eye. A car like that should be on a ultrasound frame rack. I mean you didn’t even tram gauge it. At least, as long as there are black folk, there will always be a market for luxury salvage cars, they love‘ em.

As a former Body Shop manager, I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole. Without the proper frame apparatus and measuring equipment, you are LITERALLY taking your life in your own hands. Saving money is one thing but playing Russian Roulette with thousands of pounds of vehicle, is just not smart. Not to mention that if your "home repair" doesn't hold, you could not only kill yourself but you could kill someone else. Bad idea.......
