The Cognitive Tradeoff Hypothesis S3 (Ep 1)

It is not just language. It is also the ability to read, write. In other words, we record, retrieve and communicate through writing, reading and talking. So at one point, our brains must have evolved that it is not necessary to remember all the things because he have books to write and read.

The monkey's had more practice. The tests are the monky's daily routine and have been since childhood while this is not the case with the human participating in the experiment. I don't think the comparisson of the two in this case can be treated as sound experimental evidence because of this discrepency. A better test would be to take monkys end humans who have the same amount of practice and compare the two groups with a t-test.

Hasn't anyone made a correlation between autism and the skills set you see in these chimpanzees? Being a person with aspergers I know that doing repeated tasks perfectly is within my abilities, however force me into a situation where I have to speak verbally and my performance drops significantly and my emotional state shifts from confident and happy to frustrated anger with a powerful urge to use physical violence. I would love the chance to compare the scientific notes about adhd, autism and chimpanzees. I have the belief that it would lead to a better understanding of npf and animals alike.

It's almost like humans are looking at the numbers through a rifle scope, and the chimps are capturing and registering everything their eyes observe. When I look at one number, the others fade away. Our eyes focus in to a specific point of attention, and everything else, although seen, seems to not be picked up by our conscious mind. Kinda like a camera recording something but only the direct middle of the shot is clear, and the rest is blurry.

I declare over you! That I was made in Gods Image, that no man see over the humble truth that lay over every person on this Earth. That every subject in its presence shall be made to know . Man was made under God and there will be no one under God and you all find it funny why the more that you screw with this, the more horibly wrong it gets. Its like mankind has said, surely we, being made in Gods Image can be greater than all!.. Welll folks, thats where alot of freaking things went wrong. Sometimes its our place to go at a pace that invigorates growth and understanding. Like all selfish beings before us, we would like to think otherwise. When this is all said and done I just hope that everyone got what they wished for.

Should compare this to people who play games particularly fps games or games which require quick thinking and response. I was finding I was regularly getting two or more than Michael in that last one despite the poorer angles of view. Though I also have autism which may have a slight impact, at younger ages when I had various iq tests done my short term memory was pretty standard and only barely above the average.

I am curious as to what would happen if the tests done require 2 chimps to work together. What if the test was done in a way that required both chimps to do part of the puzzle so they both can get a reward. Would they learn working together or are they not capable of thinking in that manor? We already know that we can teach chimps language in the form of sign language and they do show an understanding of what they are saying. They create new words by combing words to describe something new like a radish they will sign, "burn hurt food."

I wonder if the chimps have (instead of language) missed out on better long-term memory for this capacity. Or is it a greater short-term memory that they're using to do this? How long do they continue to retain this information after the sequence is flashed? Seconds? Minutes? Weeks? Years?

Couldn't the chimps also have acquired this sort of thing after our ancestral split? Meaning humans never had this adaptation and chimps developed it later on. I would really love to see how a person swore to a vow of silence would fair up to this test. If they have essentially stopped using that portion of the brain for many years perhaps, if the quick decision making portion is near by and shrunk like hypothesized, then maybe that could be a switch back to that portion of the brain? That is assuming it doesn't take millions of years for that sort of adaptation to evolve. It would just be interesting to see if someone like this would do any better than Michael or any other "speaker".

I think the most interesting thing here is how Michael was trying to solve the problems on screen. If you watch him, he is trying to plan the route his finger is going to take on the screen and memorize that instead of actually trying to memorize where the numbers actually are. This is primarily why it takes him so much longer. The chimps aren't planning anything. They don't try to visualize in advance what they are going to do, they just get an imprint of the scene and mentally reference it when they touch the buttons. Essentially they are using two completely different methods when trying to solve the problem, and the method that Michael is using is more suited to long term planning and repetition. I would be interested in seeing what would happen if you gave both Michel and a chimp a set of 5 numbers to memorize and they had to get the right order 10 times in a row when only seeing the pattern once. Since Michel can plan his route, the more times he completes it, the faster he will get. My hypothesis is that the chimp will get worse as the memory starts to fade.

I have to be cynical of this you beat their monkey twice in a scientific test then he jumps you up to level 14 from level 3 and says see monkeys can do it but we can't. But I bet he never tested the monkey on such a high level right away he worked the monkey up to it over time. He only did that to you because you started to disprove his hypothesis and research by doing it better. Knowtice he never suggested the final test until you said that you think you might be able to catch up to the monkey eventually. So he wanted to prove you wrong he wanted to discredit you because he saw you as a potential threat to his life research. I believe with 2 weeks of practice you would almost match the monkey.
